Freedom of information - halted by Labour
Whilst Labour promised more open government and
less secrecy, and although a draft bill opening up these doors has been drawn
up, it has now been delayed. The Home office and Jack Straw say it is
to refine its contents, but many suspect it is to keep the public out
of information held by police and local authorities, as well as files
kept by secret agencies on so called 'activists'.
There IS a case in terrorist or drug related crimes, but no others.
The Scottish parliament may well create its own law as it has jurisdiction
over information in Scotland, lets see if Westminster vetos it!
Professor Alan Miller of the Scottish human rights centre said "
There is nothing to prevent the Scottish parliament from giving it a higher priority than
Westminster and to act more quickly".
